Bill of health

Our sources in the medical community in Cuba have been sending us reports about raul castro's own faulting health.
The bill of health apparently is far from clean, and the reports mention a few ailments such as cyrrhosis of the liver, with a slew of hepatic complications, a mild skin cancer -reported as benign- and some marks in his lungs, due to cigarrette smoking. In the past he has suffered from kidney stones and stomach ulcers. We have been also told that raul castro kicked the cigarret habit, but we have no confirmation of lung cancer.

We also have receive other reports, which we have not been able to confirm through any independent party, all of them pointing to a faulty health, and to a variety of diagnostics.

They have a common factor with the reports we could confirm, that even if raul castro's health is far from being great, his current condition is not life threatening, it is about what you can expect in a seventy six year old man of a very dissolute lifestyle.

Of course, we are going to be releasing updates as soon as we can verify the information. Among those rumored cancers are cancer of the duodene, panchreatic cancer, stomach tumors, and full blast liver and lung cancer (usually they come as a combo). Again, we have not received any third party confirmation on any of these, even though we hear a lot of chatter about leukemia -also unconfirmed.

No word on his mental condition, but y'all know that he is a bipolar individual -bouts of violence followed by a mellow state, outbursts and repentance- and he is also a very paranoid, very manipulative, pathological liar.

The place of burial for raul castro will be besides his wife Vilma Espin, under the plaque already put in place for that finality.

Now, the footnote:
We have written before about the possible burial place for castro.
In Oriente:

1- His ancestral home of Biran, with his parents. The burial place in the garden has been tended and remodeled a couple of times during the last year.
2- Posta No. 1, Moncada Barracks, Santiago de Cuba, the place he never was "able to find" on that fateful day of July 26th, 1953, sending his men into what he knew from the beginning that was a failed enterprise.
3- Pico Turquino, under the Jose Marti bust on the crown of the mountain. The bust was placed there by Celia Sanchez Manduley and her family, before castro's violent arrival to power.
4- It is also rumored in Santiago de Cuba that an even bigger insult to Marti might be in the works:to bury his cremains side by side with Marti in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia in Santiago, so the population do not dare to destroy the grave and disturb the remains of Marti in order to get to the remains of Castro. Talk about using Marti as a human shield even in death.
(we got independent confirmation that this rumor is actually making the rounds in Santiago through a Cuban engineer who recently traveled to that city)

In Havana:
1- Under the monument to Marti in what he calls Plaza de la Revolucion (it will become again the Plaza Civica, but we would prefer Plaza de la Libertad one day)
2- Under the SAU-100 in front of the Museum of the Revolution (which will become again one day Palacio Presidencial de la Republica de Cuba)
3- The ashes will be exposed in an elaborate urn at the Granma Memorial, behind the Palacio Presidencial (where the statue of President Zayas used to be)

There was some talk in Havana for a while saying that he would be interred in the Pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces at the Colon Cemetery, or besides Che Guevara in Las Villas. The first is still mentioned from time to time, the second was promptly discarded after doubts of the autenthicity of the remains of Che Guevara rose.

Both castro's will be cremated, as desired by them. The idea doesn't have a lot of support by the castro family, so at least in the case of the dying dictator it's possible that this final desire will not be fulfilled.

I can tell you first-hand, that this speculation regarding the health of Raul Castro is circulating on the island as well. During the span of time between his most recent reappearance (last week) and his last appearance before that (July 26th) there was a great deal of speculation on the island, with many individuals mentioning a healthcare crisis he suffered a few years back - which incidentally, was also kept very hush-hush.

We shall see. Certainly, Raul hasn't taken very good care of his body - nor is a spring-chicken by any means.

Yes, he's not famous for being a health-freak precisely....
That's what we are getting from our sources on the ground.... as we say, there's a lot of rumors and we are trying to confirm a lot of what's said.
A few years back, during the Pan American Games there was even the rumor of raul's death.

So now little bro is getting sick, hopefully close to a death bed, at his age and all that drinking I hear about, cyrrhosis of the liver has probably set in, it's not fun to die from that, I hear pieces of your liver start to come out of your nose, at an advanced state of disease that is.

As per the mummy, bury him anywhere, (we will make sure to desecrate his ashes, once Cuba is free) except in Jesus tomb as the joke goes, he may resusitate on the third day.

I doubt he has liver cancer. Cirrhosis is a possibility. He probably has Hep C, is a High Viral load genotype 1 which is the most difficult to cure, and has failed IFN therapy. If he has failed he is a non-responder which is difficult to cure. Now, if he gets a liver transplant he could survive for some time, with low doses of Interferon in order to try and control the virus, if he is on low dose IFN, the liver could regenerate itself, in where the fibrosis and damage caused to the liver could be reversed. All in all I HOPE HE DIES!! I will look for at his color next time he is on the tube or a pic and I will give my assesment. Now to what Charlie says if he does have Hepatocellular Carcinoma then goodbye Raul.

Alva9563, welcome to the blog.... please post your assessments.
If he's gotta die soon, well the perfect timing would be for him to die BEFORE fidel, so their plan gets totally discombabulated!

If la China is coinfected with HIV because of his love for the tube, the Hepatitis will advance the HIV which will cause the liver to erode rapidly. In my opinion this is what Arafat died of. My guess is that he is monoinfected, and that he will not receive a transplant because of his age and the antirejection medications are too harsh. Raul is probably not on IFN in my opinion one because of the side effects, and again because of his age. We need to look at any type of yellowing of the skin, his eyes or his skin that is a big indicator of liver failure. We also need to look for belly fat which is another indicator of liver failure, know as Acsities. Charlie I have posted before as Alex Alvarez, I have never gone away just havent posted.

Cheers

Oh, ok.... That's good....
He seems to have some jaundice, and also some sort of liver spots in both hands and side of the face. Let's keep the monitoring on.

Yes I have noticed the spots not really the jaundice. I am always on the lookout for it. I wonder if he really did go to Italy? Some of the best Hepatologist in the world are located in Italy.

Hey, if they bury him at place #3 in the Oriente or #1 in Havana, could the future, democratic gov't move his body somewhere else (assuming he isn't cremated)? I think that'd be one great big insult to Martí.

Well Matt, there's also another place that some people in Oriente say that is also rumored for his burial, which is even a big insult to Marti: side by side with Marti in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia in Santiago, so the population do not dare to destroy the grave and disturb the remains of Marti in order to get to the remains of Castro. Stick him in the family property's plots in Oriente and forget about him. Let the property rot away into oblivion in much the same way that Fidel has allowed his own country to rot and agin . . . forget about him.

That's exactly our position CubaWatcher.... the worst punishment that can be inflicted in such a megalomaniac is to condemn him to preside over the heap of trash of history. Of his on heap of trash of the history he invented, as it should be said....

Neither Castro's cadaver nor his ashes should be allowed to desecrate our country's soil, drenched with the blood of martyrs. Let his cremains be transported in a rocket out of this world. As for his birthplace, in Birán, let the soil be sown with thousands of metric tons of salt so that nothing will ever grow there again.
