Allah in La Lisa (from CB)

Our reporter on the field Charlie Bravo sends the following post
We apologize for the second hand intervention but I think he is somewhere near Zimbabwe and well ya know how those things are !
-------------------------------------------------------------

I met a lot of people today whom I will be around for the next two or three months, whatever the job lasts. Some are going to be my trainees, some are going to be my friends, and some are going to be my rivals. But that’s fine.

A place just a couple of hours away from home and it looks like a different world, even though when it’s just a rural corner of Pennsylvania….

This morning I got an e-mail from a friend who always read one of the best round ups in Cuban news from Spain: Penultimos Dias, a very good website which is in our blog roll, and that gives you a very good perspective on how Cuba is seen from Europe.

My reader and friend found, alarmed, that Iran is promoting an Islamic group in Havana. We have touched upon this on the past, but I decided to investigate a little bit more, and boy, all the traveling in the world, all the work in the world cannot keep me away from this issue.

What did I find?
A source in la Lisa, which is a tropical Mecca of sorts, found the leader of the Cuban sect, a fellow whose name I got from the article appeared on Penultimos Dias. Since it’s difficult to approach someone who has “converted” to Islam, my source followed the path (should I said dilapidated sidewalks) which the Cuban “imam” Ali Nicolas Cossio Sierra walks everyday.
She found that the conversion was more like an auto-conversion, according to neighbors. This fellow seems to have worked for several bureaucratic entities before becoming full time professional Islamist, and it’s rumored to be a correspondent for an Iranian radio station in Spanish and that he is apparently the leader of the “Islamic community”. There’s no word about his positions, but he didn’t appear as an extremist or anything.
Curiously, there are no Cuban editions of the Koran to be distributed among the new “followers” who are mainly mulattos and black, unemployed, and I would say, victims of the apartheid the government sponsors in Cuba. According to what is said in the neighborhood, in la Lisa alone there are more or less five hundred self-branded Moslems, who attend in small numbers the celebrations conducted by Iranian “diplomats”. I have no word on what the Arab countries do, if they do anything at all for these new Moslems. Saudi Arabia maybe has some sort of involvement, but I haven’t been able to find anything in such short notice.

Iran is therefore meddling in Cuban matters, artificially creating an attachment were there was none, and introducing a religion that is not welcome in Cuba. Some of these Moslems already got a backlash from Santeros and Catholics who both follow the sayings of the Pope, when the Moors started calling for his beheading. The Cuban Moslems were very quiet, but still their neighbors blasted them, which is good.

The rumor is that they are in talks with the Iranian embassy to have them to intercede with the Cuban government, whichever it is, to build a mosque or restore an existing building in Old Havana as a mosque. We knew when we wrote our previous article on Islam in Cuba that they “meet” at the Union Arabe de Cuba on Paseo del Prado, and at the restaurant “La Casa del Arabe” in Old Havana. We will investigate on the possible construction or establishment of a Mosque in Havana and you certainly will be able to read those reports on KillCastro.

We will keep our source identity in secret, since she could be either forced to wear a burqa, stoned to death, or beheaded. I somehow don’t trust those Moslems, even if they are my fellow Cubans. I am sure that whoever is in charge in Cuba is getting a thrill out this Moslem presence in the island: Moslem and Arab money, oil, and other goods will come galore. And besides, no more pork, no more alcohol, what’s better for a country with a long story in rationing! Ah, obscurantism, ignorance, and hate! They all play well with the Anti-American agenda of the tyranny, don’t they?

While waiting for more answers to a lot of questions I posed, I found this interesting bit of information that I want to share with y’all:
Straight from declarations by Sheikh Muhammad Al-Aboudy:

Sheikh Muhammad bin Nassir Al-Aboudy, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), has expressed the hope that the government of Cuba would respond positively to a request for the establishment of an Islamic organization that would take care of the affairs of Cuba’s Muslim community. Among the other aims of the proposed organization would be the setting up of prayer places and mosques where the Muslims could congregate for their five daily prayers, and also the dissemination of Islamic culture among the Muslims.

He said a delegation from the MWL recently visited Cuba and discussed the proposal with some senior officials here, and added that such a move would strengthen the relations between Cuba and the Muslims peoples in the world and would also consolidate the cultural relations between Cuba and Islamic countries.

Aboudy said that at the moment the Muslims in Cuba perform their prayers at home, because even in Havana there is no mosque in which they could congregate for prayers, adding that the only prayers that are performed in public are the Friday Prayers that are conducted in a place known as The Arab House, into which Cubans are prevented from entering.

Sheikh Aboudy’s visit covered not only Cuba, but also the other Caribbean island nations of Haiti, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and then Portugal.

Aboudy said that The Arab House belonged to a wealth Arab immigrant who had lived in Cuba in the 1940s, and it was built on Andalusian architectural designs. The House encompasses an Arabic museum, an Arabic restaurant, and the place is used by Muslim diplomats for Friday Prayers, but is off-bounds to Cuban Muslims, even for prayers.

Qatar donated a sum of US$ 40,000 for the remodeling of the House, but it is opened only on Fridays, and only for three hours, for the Friday Prayers.

However, Cuba’s Muslims say their prayers in their homes, since the state does not allow the construction of mosques, and there is no Muslim organization to protect the interests of Cuban Muslims.

Aboudy said his trip to Havana was for the purpose of obtaining permission from the Cuban authorities for the setting up of an organization that would take care of the interests of Cuban Muslims, and for this purpose met the director of the Middle East and North African Desk and discussed the proposal with him, including the construction of a mosque in Havana. He also met t he director of the Gulf Affairs desk.

Aboudy said he made a representation to them about the building of a mosque in Havana, and explained to them the importance of a mosque in the life of a Muslim. He said his Cuban hosts replied: “This is impossible, because once the Cuban government agrees to the setting up of an Islamic organization; it has also to agree to the setting up of similar organizations by other religious denominations, such as the Christians, whose Catholic denomination make up 90 percent of the population.” He added: “We are not religious-minded, because we are socialists, and do not allow any religious societies in our midst.”

Sheikh Aboudy said he insisted that Cuba’s Muslims be allocated a house which they can use as a mosque, and that the MWL would aid the mosque, without interfering in the politics of the country. He said he told the officials that such a move would symbolize a degree of cooperation with the Muslim world. Their reply, he said, was that they would present the request at the next meeting of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, and that his would take time.

Sheikh Aboudy said the Cuban government does not prevent the Muslims from performing their prayers, though it does not encourage it. He said recently a Cuban woman who had embraced Islam donated her house for the performance of prayers by the Muslims, adding that there is no animosity against Muslims in Cuba and therefore it is fertile ground for Da’awa activity.

The MWL official went on to say that in the town of Pilaya de Rosario (sic, ignorant Moor, it's Playa del Rosario) 40 percent of its population is Muslim, and that the MWL was prepared to help in the construction of a mosque, particularly now that the new Muslim lady has donated her house for the purpose.

Among the international Islamic organizations that are carrying out charitable work among Cuba’s Muslims is the Qatari Charitable Society, and there are estimates that indicate that the population of indigenous Cuban Muslims is not less than 1000.

Aboudy concluded by saying that the MWL is prepared to help the Muslims of Cuba learn more about their religion, by sending Da’awa workers and Islamic literature, and the like.

I must add some notes:
1- I have visited the Arab House Restaurant in Old Havana. It was alongside with the Headquarters of the PLO, which were taken from a Jewish charity by kasstro, the unofficial headquarters of the Palestinian terrorists in Havana, who conducted meetings there while the rest of the facility was open to the public disguised as a Middle Eastern restaurant.
2- My take on the prohibition to build a mosque was a secret deal not to upset the already volatile relationships with the U.S.A. But now, with this other lunatic at the helm it would be something he would do just to signal the U.S.A. that he’s getting powered by Arab oil and Moslem monies.
3- There have been conversations with the Religious Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba to build or restore a building as a Mosque. There’s a lot of opposition in Old Havana to have it there, since it’s the seat of historic churches, the farthest the Historian of the City (who privately said “never”) and the political administration of Old Havana would ever go is to allow prayer by foreign dignitaries on the premises of La Casa del Arabe. Nothing else, since they don’t want to offend the Santero and Catholic population of Old Havana, which at the same time is a solid anti-kasstro, pro-American stronghold. Pedro Lazo a.k.a. Ihaya, the founder of Islam in Cuba, was told by the Commies, that they do not plan to give permission to build a mosque.
4- Interestingly enough, both most visible heads of Islam in Cuba Ali and Ihaya are former government officials, according to reports of another source in Old Havana.

Alarming information from Wikipedia:
The latest statistics for Islam in Cuba claim a population of 907 Muslims representing 0.008 percent of the population. Outside sources claim this number may be artificially low given the Cuban governments Socialist-Communist attitudes towards religion. In 2001 Sheikh Muhammad bin Nassir Al-Aboudy, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) travelled to Cuba to obtain permission from the Cuban authorities to establish an Islamic organization that would support Cuba’s Muslim community. Among the other aims of the proposed organization would be constructing mosques and the dissemination of Islamic culture among the Muslims.

Cuba’s Muslims usually pray in their homes since there is no mosque in Havana and the state does not allow the construction of mosques. The only prayers performed in public are the Friday Prayers that are conducted in a place known as Casa de los Árabes ("The Arab House") in old Havana. The Arab House belonged to a wealthy Arab immigrant who lived in Cuba during the 1940s, and it was built on Andalusian architectural designs. The House encompasses an Arabic museum, an Arabic restaurant, and the place is used by Muslim diplomats for Friday Prayers. Qatar donated US$ 40,000 for the remodeling of the House, but it is only opened for Friday Prayers.

The MWL official estimated that in the town of Playa del Rosario, 40 percent of the population is Muslim. Among the international Islamic organizations doing charitable work among Cuba’s Muslims is the Qatari Charitable Society.

My note on this: I have no way of confirming that 40% of the population of Playa del Rosario is Moslem, I tend to dispute that figure, but we don’t have reliable data about the town and its social make up. It sounds like typical Arab street camel shit.

Who said that Miami was the new Casablanca, full of intrigues and spies? Welcome to Havana.

Excellent article and that same time very scary. Cuba is ripe for Islamic growth, since the Catholic church has sat on its ass for the last 47 years and has done absolutely nothing to fight for those that worship in their churches, leaving empty souls. However, I have difficulty believing that the liberated Cuban woman would join a religion that would demean their very existence to the point that Islam does. This would the perfect terrorist, strap your backpack, bomber recruitment center. It would be totally unexpected for a terrorist to arrive on a raft in Miami.

Read Revolución en Religión own take on this: http://religionrevolucion.blogspot.com/2005/10/musulmanes-en-cuba.html

Just to clarify CB wrote the article but he is on the road. I just POSTED it!

In Cuba Islam has as much of a chance of becoming a powerful element as I do at having natural green eyes. This is just two monsters trying to fuck each other up the ass so the crowd goes OH MY GOD IMAGINE THE BEAST THAT IS GONNA COME OUT OF THAT UNION!
Two fucking dinosaurs going at it throw up a LOTTA dust . And that is what THIS IS. Each thinks they are gonna take advantage of the other.
As a tactical move on the part of KaSStro (while he was in shape to have a bowel movement) what better way to scare the yanks than to flirt with Islam ? Islam on their own stupid way , THINK that hey we got this guy this is the USA nemesis this guy are gonna give a beach head 90 miles from the USA.
Call as you wish and one thing KaSStro has never been is stupid, egotistical mistakes have been made a plenty but politically? You can count them with one hand and the motherfucker always lands on his feet (that devil pact may give him some kindda black cat powers).
The recent controversy with the Pope show s where the Cuban people stand on all of this and THAT is one part of the Cuban heritage that KaSStro is never going to even TRY to touch.
Yes the catholic church has been EXTREMELY weak (out of respect will not call them enablers) but let us not forget that Jehova witnesses in Cuba are EVERYWHERE. So are other Christian sects that never were even mentioned in Cuba. The catholic church HAPPENS to be the most left oriented church . You will actually hear a catholic priest praising KaSStro (I have) but you will NOT hear any protestant religion praising Communism . So yes if we put a magnifying glass towards ISLAM growing in Kuba it may seem worrisome, but let’s look at the amazing explosion of other Christian religions. Religions that do not need a MOSQUE to practice just the back of a house and a cross. Now, you have the MOST powerful of forces sitting there. Forces that Islam will never dent and that is SANTERIA. I wanna see Muslims go head to head with Santeros, ñanñigos etc. A ñañigo will behead a fucking ‘SLIME faster that you can cross yourself take a gulp of RON and then spend the rest of the night doing el guaguanco!.

Islam flourishes out of a the sheer squalor where they have been brought up , Kuba may be a SHITHOLE , but it is a SHITHOLE with beautiful azure skies and women with bodies like goddesses beaches where you can just lay down and melt . Cuba has SABOR, music, color . The Cubans so jodedores and that is who we are. I wanna see a Cuban keeping an aye on the watch he DOES NOT HAVE to stop what he is doing turn the MECCA and pray . Yeah right!. If they get one 15 minute break! They run for un cafesito, un vacilon a un par de jevas (Mami que clase ‘e culo!) argue about baseball and politics and that is IT cause that is US!
They can send all the Muslim literature they want, it will wind up as toilet paper. They may even gain some Catholics, but the REST of the population will just GOOF on these pricks.

My dad tells me that all middle easterns in Cuba used to be called MOROS or SIRIOS (si chico la mujer del SIRIO le estab pegando los taros con el chino de la esquina. No fucking concept of PR in Cuba!) and Moros or SIRIOS were the lowest of lows!

That remains there and whoever is in charge in Kuba may as well tell the people they can not fuck they will get a better response.
Yeah the government ( I gotta come up with another name for this cause it is no longer KaSStrismo!) is playing patty cake with the ‘SLIMES but the ‘SLIMES are gonna get fucked in Cuba and ROYALLY!

Excellent article, I personally don't see any major religious changes in Cuba. I also feel that changing our viewpoint towards the so-called new leaders is not necassary either. I will not be thrown into that bullshit propaganda trap. For me, Fidel and Raul are still in charge and will not change my attention towards these "Members" of the Castro regime, who have been there long enough. This is just another futile attempt to discourage the Cuban citizens and all the Cuban exiles. I say we continue concentrating on the 2 Murderous leaders who have been in power and are still in power for 47 years, don't get thrown off people. Jose Cubanology.com

It seems that the goal here is to see the two KaSStros HUNG like Mussolini and THAT will make everything Okey .. That about right?

Then WHAT? What is your next step?

WHERE IS THE PLAN?

SOMEBODY SHOW ME A PLAN! PLEASE!

When we say the KaSStros are DONE , this is not some whimsical little "hunch" this is FACT!

I dont even understand the "futile attempt part" How is it futile to look at ALL possible motherfuckers that WILL jump into power once the TWO HIJOS DE PUTA are gone?
Or you think that once the two pricks are dead Cuba will be handed down to to a democratic, sincere & patriotic group of people?
So yours seems to me the misguided goal, if the KaSStros are DEAD we can now go back to our regular scheduled program?

You REALLY think that is gonna be THAT easy?

Obsessing against one opponent is the easiest way to get your head knocked off and for some reason a LOT of people are disappointed that KaSStros fall from power did not happen in an invasion or a revolt. My own dad is disappointed cause he can NOT go and spit at the pricks burnt body! Sure it would cleanse a LOT of the anger we have had for 47 years but … How does that help the 12 million Cubans in CUBA ?

I am willing to listen, but If I am getting SOLID reports from Cuba that KaSStro is as good as dead and so is La China but that we need to keep an eye on this Valdez prick , I am gonna ignore THAT ?

Explain to me what YOU have achieved once the KaSStros are DEAD, and we can see pictures of the two pricks hanging from lamp posts at el Malecon. do we THEN start worrying about the prick that will be sitting on the throne?

I am listening I REALLY wanna see what your strategy is here since you’re so adamant about "not getting thrown off”, because if you are not concerned about Ramiro Valdez personal pilot stocking up on surveillance gear in the USA and his kid sipping Lattes in Coral Gables , I AM !

And BTW – it is really not that much more difficult to keep your eye on 2 pricks that it is to keep it on 3 of them.
