Where is the clamor for these Cubans?

Only on Penultimos Dias and KillCastro....
In the meantime, men and women who only want their freedom are treated worse than the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay.

Sorry my previous comment was incomplete:

My letter to Congressman Sarbanes:

Good day sir:

I would like to call to your attention the plight of some Cubans held in Guantanamo who are on a hunger strike. The US won't let them in the country but it is understood that sending them back to Castro would probably get them killed. So they remain in limbo. Let me offer a compromise that will lead quickly to the downfall of Castro. Guantanamo is a big place with only about 10% being used by Americans for the base. Let the exile population fund homesteading on a small portion of the area to put a foothold of democracy and freedom back on the island. High rise apartments could be constructed to hold lots of Cubans in high density. In fact the southern area could be developed into a real tourist area as well as other self sustaining endeavors. It would be like Hong Kong in the Caribbean and would not cost tax payers a dime.

My great grandfather signed that original 99 year lease with the US for the base. Is American so greedy that it cannot return a small percentage of the area where a Cuban might be able to breath the air of freedom once again in his own country?

Guantanamo is being used as a military reservation, no? I doubt it'll be feasible to establish major civilian residential areas there...

Great idea, of course... Just wondering whether it's possible.

Peter, welcome to our comment section.
Every military base in the world has a large civilian residential center attached to them, where the families of the troops and the brass live. The civilian staffers in the particular case of Gtmo live there, too.
Welcome to the Operation Tocororo Libre.

Free people even on a rock called Hong Kong with absolutely no natural resources became rich. Why can't Cubans do so in an area with lots of resources?

We need to get this issue out to the nation.

It is utterly unconscionable that these Cuban REFUGEES have been JAILED for over 2 years now BY THE UNITED STATES GOVT - IN THEIR OWN MOTHER COUNTRY NO LESS.

Remember the US in ONLY A "LESSEE" (renter), the US is not the OWNER of that soil - it is CUBAN SOIL.

The best and quickest way is to interject the issue is as a 'presistant' question during the campaign of Presidential candidates of both parties. This will get national headlines.

AFTER ALL, the MSM is making a BIG ISSUE out of the U.S. detaining TERRORISTS in Guantanamo, how easy will it be to bring up a 'followup question' on "WHY ARE WE DETAINING REFUGEES"????

They will defend the terrorists, Guarapo, but they will better drop dead before defending a Cuban refugee.

Tomas letter is the BEST reality check anyone can give to the USA government. If Cuba was free the USA would’ve given back the base already and TECHNICALLY that base is the ONLY free land in all of Cuba , so why NOT give it back to FREE Cubans!?
RIGHT FUCKING ON TOMAS!
Your great grandfather would be SO PROUD!
