CB- back in the days before the World Wide Web, I ran Radio Roquero, a weekly radio broadcast on Shortwave radio from Miami that was the first program of rock and punk music broadcast to Cuba.
We got under El Comandante's skin so bad that he would jam our transmissions, but from the reception reports I received from listeners on the island the jamming only made listening difficult in the Havana area [I got plenty of letters from listeners in the provinces, especially in Oriente]
In addition to foreign rock and punk bands, I played Cuban bands and artists from both sides of the Florida Straits, including Carlos Varela, Zeus, Detenidos, Cosa Nostra, Nil Lara, Nuclear Valdez, Bay of Pigs and my own band Arranca [whenever our punk version of the Cuban national anthem, Himno Racional, came on the air, the jamming got particularly intense!]
I remember your story about Himno Nacional, Victor, and it still resonates in my iPod.
I am glad we can help Gorki and these lads from Porno Para Ricardo to beat the living hell out of Castro....
