The arroz frito model
No, I don't mean in a Chinese restaurant in Havana's own Chinatown, but rather in La China's own kitchen.
We've got some reports that there's a team of economists in charge to Cubanize the Chinese Economic Model, so we are calling this approach The Arroz Frito Model, since the similarity is striking.
Chinese Fried Rice originated in Havana's Chinatown eons ago, when Chinese cooks were left with very little amounts of everything and had to concoct a dish fast for inebriated revelers of one of those famous Havana late night parties.
So they mixed everything, with Cuban and Chinese ingredients, and voilà, the fried rice was born.
At this point, raul castro has ordered the economists to device a way to ease the deep maladies of the broken ecomic systems, and his request was to Cubanize whatever was possible of the Chinese model. He wants the Party to keep control, but he has understood that the population cannot keep under the boot forever, specially when now there's no more boot but just only his designer high heels.
So, in short, foreign enterprises working in Cuba will be able to hire anybody they want, without government interference, and they will be able to pay them directly, and Cubans will be able for the first time in half a century to negotiate their salaries. They will probably be paid either in Euros or American dollars. Of course, the government will get its cut with the conversion of those monies to a new Cuban currency that will appear after a few economic reforms.
Also, there are plans to authorize private property of productive enterprises, restaurants, pensiones and paradores (bed and breakfasts) and other for-profit ventures. I have to mention that according to the information we are getting the high echelons of the government have been a tad reluctant to this, but they apparently came to the realization that they have no other way of keeping power.
There will not be any political aperture, as far as we are told.
Of course, that will stay like that until the death of Raul, and then we will see a gradual democratic opening, which will happen only if the dissidents get organized and prepare themselves to the event of the disappearance of the castros.
We have to believe that this plans have been passed to the American government, since there seem not to be any interest in hastening any event that might be happening down in Cuba. Apparently both governments are keeping their ends of the deal, whatever might be.
Ready for an obituary?
Yes?
Well, it can come at any moment.....

CB,
This sounds like a very logical move, since the queen of mean will not be able to rule the island they way his brother did. Whether or not it works for them, that's left to be seen.
Now, about your statement about an obituary, have you heard something new?
No, I haven't heard any other news, Roland...
But such dismantling of fidel's economic "model" can be only achieved without his presence.
Charlie:
If this means things will go better for the people in the Island so be it, I'm for anything that will improve their lives, we have to take baby steps, and wait, and wait, and....
I don't care how sweet a deal Raul is offering! He is a crook! He has always been a crook. And he will always be a crook. Therefore, if anyone is stupid enough to risk money in that pirate environment I must assume they have inherited that money. No one smart enough to actually earn the money would risk it in Cuba with the Havana mafia making the deals.
They are all gangsters...
real changes could come in about 12-17 more years...
cuando la generacion completa de la sierra y los batistianos esten todos en el paraiso o infierno
Fantomas, Tomas.... we need to keep up the fight.
The next step is to do whatever's needed to take down raul. Gorki is being singing about it.... "a rey muerto, raul puesto, que le sirve de repuesto".
Now let us look at the glass which right now is dry as a bone, and grab our trusty Korean crystal ball and look a year into the future of a Chiuba financial model.
First if ANYONE is surprised by this, you are an idiot because we have been saying this was coming for about 2 years and we got the info from the guys who drafted the economic model (yes our sources not only know about "medical" issues and have the ability to tell if someone IS alive. So in a year the bone dry glass is 1/4 full. Now we have the beginning of a REVOLT. People are fed, making some Euros, getting some PCs, some scanners some cell phones. Yes La China will still be putting people away, but not with as much frequency nor without a damn good reason.
So Cubans start gathering, and Gorki gets new amps and an FREE economy starts to take hold.. THAT is the good thing about a glass 1/4 full how quickly it becomes 1/2 full and before you know it it is overflowing and at THAT precise point the walls come tumbling down. So, let us not be too quick to get disenchanted because La China is still on her throne , let us rejoice that La China wants her head right where it is right now and to achieve THAT , our brothers and sisters in Cuba will have SOME economic relief ( just IMAGINE the GO FUCK YOURSELF the USA is gonna get on that one) and a free economy begets rich investors and rich investors beget wealthy managers and so on and so on and so..
This just did NOT happen! This was the PLAN. It has been all along, it only needed KaSStro off the main stage.
And by the way if you think that there’s ANY doubt that KaSStrism is all but dead hear the latest declarations of Chavez
"God damn, I am already tired of people asking me about Fidel's health ... Fidel’s health makes NO difference to MY government"
Thank you Indio, you said a mouthful.
I agree with Killcastro. If you go on the assumption that there has been no popular revolt in Cuba because the people are too busy trying to "resolver" day in and day out, well then that reason will go out the window.
If Cubans on the island can negotiate salaries with their employers and the Cuban government suddenly isn't the sole provider the it should open the eyes of the Cubans of what can be done in a full free market society.
Like Killcastro says: "free economy begets rich investors and rich investors beget wealthy managers and so on and so on and so.."
That would be a huge first step. Of course it isn't the first step that many of us exiles had always envisioned with the government falling once Fidel moves off the stage, but it is the first step nonetheless and we need to view it positively.
The key question is how should the U.S react and how will it react. Interesting stuff...
KC,
The majority of the exile community (primarily due the rightful visceral hatred Castro) has always been too 'ideological' in their thinking approach to dealing with the CASTRO MAFIA.
By this I mean, that we should be more 'practical' in coming up with ways/policies that WILL ACTUALLY lead to the de-establelization and downfall of the tyranny - IRREGARDLESS of what the tyranny is doing or saying.
The 'ideological' conumdrum has caused many exiles to take the 'opposite' angle to the CASTRO MAFIA's actions.
More to the point of the issue you raised in this case - the 'privatization' potential to be implemented by the CASTRO MAFIA.
The conventional exile response (because of our ideological 'hatred' of CASTRO) is to NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO with this 'privatization' plan and not 'participate' in any way whatsoever (because it might rightfully 'help' the CASTRO MAFIA).
I would offer another point of view and that is... - LET'S SEE HOW WE CAN TAKE THIS 'plan of theirs' and see HOW WE CAN USE IT to DE-ESTABLIZE THEM!!
Let's use their game to beat them and find all the possible ways to do this...
- Provide the GORKIs of Cuba with resources to FIGHT the tyranny in their own way.
- Provide the resources/assistance to our Cuban bretheren to 'gain' economic strength to launch the fight - through "their plan" of individual privatization.
Exactly.... Guarapo, those words of yours have been spoken for a good amount of time in Cuba. Ad about being ideological, wow, they are pretty ideological in Cuba too... they simply have another ideology, their hatred for Castro has made them very pragmatic, and believe me they will use the tools in their hands to kill and bury the system.
Guarapo :
I have been waiting 5 years for this "economic" awakening to happen, and as you say those blinded by hatred towards the KaSStros MISS the whole point and are condemning our brothers and sisters to a life of misery.
As you say.. USE them ... For 5 years this has been the preparation.. Let the door ajar, just for a bit watch what can happen. Now, if ALL of us in the USA realized that we MUST.. and I MEAN MUST NOW .. let the ones in Cuba fight their battle the way the see fit and not dictate the rules of combat we WILL have a free Cuba , if we insist in playing Lord of the Manor and determined to achieve freedom under OUR terms , Cuba will never be free!
The egotistical , "we know better cause we had a USA education " only gets us ill will from those in Cuba and the sooner we learn this the sooner those in Cuba can start working on a freedom plan , specially when they know they have our support.
LET THEM BE FREE AND LET THEM CHOOSE THEIR WAY TO BE FREE!

Here comes a prediction...
Within a year of Cuba being free one of those motherfuckers will be involved in a political scandal of major proportions because the bucks under the table they are getting to support the AMERICAN/cuban agendas while completely ignoring CUBANS will eventually catch up with them and they will have no more lackeys to vote for them and support their treachery to the NATION they claim to give their full devotion.
