Bonanza

The upcoming Venezuelan political crisis will unleash a bonanza on South Florida.
Many Venezuelans from the professional and creative classes were holding it off until after the elections, and now that they were left hanging high and dry, they will move to the United States, most likely to South Florida, where according to the myth, and I said myth, your money goes farther than in other locales statesides. In reality, they will go to South Florida because in great part thanks to the Cuban exiles the path was paved for high-end immigration a long time ago.
So now the Venezuelans are replenishing the reservoirs of talent and money of South Florida. After the Cubans, the Nicaraguas, the Argentineans, Brazilians, and Colombians, this is the latest wave.
There's a forgotten wave in between. The Cuban rafters. But hey, they are not bringing money to the table, just the will to be free and talents. But cash ovbiously obliterates the importance of talent. They cannot go to the airport and catch a plane with cash in their pockets, but hell, nobody seems to care. The Venezuelans still can do that, and there are already a lot of immigrations lawyers helping to establish them legally on the States.
The establishment of a new dictatorship in Latin America always brings a bonanza to South Florida. Money is what counts, folks, forget about those rafters, they are poor. And besides, they are proud as hell, and you are not able to treat them as if they were Central Americans or Mexicans, because they are poor in dollars, but very rich in spirit.
Let's talk a bit more about the Cuban situation, which is what worries us the most.
The current interim dictator, raul, is dying to negotiate with the States. Why? Because if he doesn't do it, ramiro Darth valdes is going to do it. Remember, kasstro himself brought ramiro Darth valdes out to the sunshine from the darkness because he didn't trust little pansy brother raul. The self appointed four star general raul castro ruz knows very well that his insurance policy is about to expire, and it will expire at the same moment his brother is officially pronounced dead. At that very same moment, the power load is going to shift to ramiro Darth valdes, and that's going to be the last day of his high-powered ride. Will he be executed by his own henchmen? I really doubt it. No. He will be sent into retirement. In exile? In isolation within Cuba? All's possible.
The population in Cuba is kind of excited about the prospect of negotiation with the USA. That's what they would love to see happening. We reported time ago that ramiro Darth valdes was around here, secretly, trying to hammer a deal. Who knows who he saw and what they agreed on. At this point, uncle raul is between a rock and a hard place, and ready to retire.
In another development, kasstro cannot be buried in Galicia, where his father originally wanted to be buried. Our sources conducted a check, and there's no land reserved for them in the parroquial cemetery. Most likely will be in the Sierra Maestra (Pico Turquino, as KillCastro's sources reported) or at his birthplace in Biran, where his parents are buried.
How does this tie with the title of "bonanza"?
Easy, if South Florida doesn't collapse with an injection of fresh money, and fresh people, chances are that the investments in Cuba are not going to be stopped by the USA in order to keep South Florida afloat. Cash will bring reforms to Cuba, put raul castro in retirement, and eventually it will sweep every vestige of these shameful 48 years.
Will the USA negotiate with raul? Why not? Because he's a cold hearted criminal with blood all over his hands and his fatigues? There are going to be negotiations. There are a lot of historical precendents on this:
1- China, horrible situation with human rights, brutality is rampant, abortions are forcibly practiced onto women, little girls are abandoned on the side of the road, organs of executed prisoners are sold in the black market. And most likely you are reading this blog thanks to the Chinese parts of your computer. The Sino-American community doesn't have any saying in the USA-China relationships. Money talks.
2- Viet Nam, bad human right records. The USA was involved in a war that was a shame for this country in political terms, 60 000 American young men and women lost their lives there, throngs of Vietnamese were executed, imprisoned, and thousands escaped in flimsy boats to wherever they could till they were able to reach the States. And still, the voices of the Vietnamese community in the USA are not heard. Bonanza anyone?
3- Lybia. Terrorist state, bombed by the USA. Repentant terror kingpin in Michael Jackson costumes sobs and promises to be good. Money flows. The victims? well, the dead can't complain.
4- Saudi Arabia. A doubious ally. Almost all the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi, the Saudis are not that helpful in the war on terror and they actually fund a lot of your garden variety terror mongers. Oil. Money. Nice camel Ahmed!
5- Pakistan. Terrorism is their bread and butter. Money flows, because they promise some help in catching Osama Bin Laden, they haven't delivered him, but hey, money's going on that general direction.
6- Venezuela. As far as I know, there are full fledge relationships with el Mico Putumayo. He insulted Bush, but who cares?
7- Zimbabwe. Robert White-hater Mugabe is in charge. We still have a fully operational embassy down there.
8- North Korea. They are working on an atomic bomb, we give them food. They are working on a second atomic bomb, we negotiate with them. They are working on a third atomic bomb....
If the oportunity is good, the timing is right, and it proves to be financially feasable, there will be conversation and negotiations with raul. It will not matter how much evidence we are able to furnish demonstrating that he's a criminal and a terrorist. Didn't we give money to Arafat? Don't we have some channels open in Iraq to talk to people who are not really that sweet at all? They are still blowing people up to smithereens in Israel and Iraq.
What makes you think that the open wounds of the Cuban exile are going to be considered as a deterrent to such talks?

Any hints on where little Caracas will be?

The point about Venezuela not being surrounded by water is very intelligent. Venezuela can never suffer as badly as Cuba because the people can simply walk away. The bad news for the regime is the most talented will be the first to go leaving the unskilled and unproductive. This ought to do wonders for their economy. Plus Chavez can't keep his fingers off the money presses. He'll inflate the money into valueless trash like the Cuban peso. At lease they will have plenty of paper available when they visit the bathroom.
