More on the damn statue....
"A local radio station here in Miami (La Kalle 98.3) has flown the artist of the sculpture here. They are interviewing him with the purpose of enlighten him of the atrocities committed by kasstro regime. Unfortunately, the signal is two weak for me to pick-up on the fourth floor of where I work. I was able to catch a bit while on my way to work. They had a guest after guest that had their own story about the regime (i.e. political prisoners, victims of the regimes crimes, pictures of the Brothers to the Rescue). Some Cubans here are not too happy with what this radio station did. Ninoska Perez Castellon does not agree with bringing this individual to Miami. Also Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero (they are the ones that punked' kasstro and chavez) disagree with 98.3 because they do not want to give this guy a stage and so much publicity. He is not going to change because all of this means MONEY to him. I agree with them. I think all of this is a waste of time. One more thing, Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero will do their show live on the 8th from NY. They said they would give $1000 to the first person to egg the sculpture !! I am looking forward to the 8th and when it comes to Miami !! People will go nuts here. "
I think that the artist is just a publicity seeker....
Also, I received some incensed e-mails from Miami and my favourite comes from a guy called ElCubanoHombre.
He said:
"Asi que el pueblo de New York le rinde homenaje al tirano Castro, a ver que asen (sic) ustedes, alardosos, a ver si se atreven a aser (sic) algo. Segurito que si eso es aqui en Miami nosotros si que no permitimos nada de eso."
First of all, ElCubanoHombre, that's a nice moniker for someone who sounds a bit unsure of his manliness. Then, the guy mistakes the people of New York for an across the board group of asswipes in a gross generalization.
The people of New York has not conducted any public petition or public fund raiser to promote, finance, build, or install such monstrousity on Central Park. Some ill intentioned political group(s) has (have) done that, through the multiple loopholes that the art on public places regulations and laws have on the written body of rules that are vigent in this city. Lawyers have been involved in this, of course, and this is a propaganda stunt which has been paid by some veiled individual or groups. So get your "el pueblo de New York" out of your foggy picture, Mister Hombre. Get your Spanish spelling right moron, HACER, has an H and a C.
Besides, the darn sculpture is supposed to be temporal on Central Park, and wow where will it be next? In Miami! So, some dirty ass commie rat organization in that city is sponsoring this, just under your nose ElCubanoHombre!
Will I generalize about Miamians if they are not able to avoid this gross insult to happen in their own city? No. Because they are powerless. As powerless as one can imagine. All they can do is to write to the press (not that they care) the politicians (they don't give a shit about Cubans dying in the sea, will they care about this? no, until now they are silent, very silent)
Yes, they can write to their favorite radio shows, their favorite outlets, their favorite blogs, but legally, there's very little they can do. Even if freedom of expression doesn't cover praise for the enemies of the United States, the team of lawyers of the groups involved in the support of the building, installation, and tour of this piece of shit, I meant art, sorry, have found -apparently a way around that.
What's for us to do?
The only thing we can do is to protest this, with all of our strenght, no rest allowed until the damn thing is removed from public sight.
And from Miami, el Conductor -Cuban American Pundits own editorialist- has an excellent analysis on the legality of the whole stunt. {sorry, their article is no more}
Update:
Verb0s, a commenter at Cuban American Pundits mentions that there's a leak about a secret part of this stunt: the artist plans to destroy the statue in Miami. Either that or it will be destroyed. {sorry, his comment disappeared together with the article mentioned above}
I got on the phone with some artist friend in Harlem -whom for obvious reasons I gave a moniker, "Cubanito", and with "White Cloud" (a lose play on his maternal surname) who does "action painting" in Brooklyn, and they coincide in saying that it might be a possibility, that the whole thing could end up in an artistic "happening" in Miami, complete with the demolition of the statue. They wouldn't bet their weekly supply of alcohol on this, but anyway I owe them a round.
Let's hope for the best, and that this whole thing can serve to point out to people who WAS fidel kasstro.
More reporting from the Invisible Rider:
"I just put on the radio and was able to hear La Kalle 98.3 and they were very happy because the ignorant idiot said that he would not reveal the sculpture of kasstro. They are taking calls and the listeners are thanking them for bringing this idiot to Miami and changing his mind. I personally will believe it when the unveiling date passes. I think he may have felt threaten by all the calls the radio station took this morning and maybe some hate mail he may have received. Also, Albertico Rodriguez, has a show now, just said that the idiot is going to have lunch at Versailles and anyone that wants can go also. Here the moneymaker: According to Albertico Rodriguez, the idiot will give the sculpture to Miami and they can do what they want with it !! I am just reporting what has been said on the radio. "
In my opinion, the guy has re-evaluated the implications of his publicity stunt!

Elian &
Radio-Miami
'NUFF said ya fucking idiot!
I am ACTUALLY looking forward to ANY reason to go and protest this thing and then if it DOES make it in place, have a fucking party knocking chunks of it with a pin ball hammer!
I have dibs on the NOSE!
el cubano hombre me suena como un analfabeto resentido no tiene ni la menor idea de lo que esta hablando, ademas con lo que te dijo kc es pa que te calles la boca fanfarron.
"mucha salsa y poco pescao"
I decided to pull down the posts we made about thiss huckster because I realized I was giving him more pub and that's exactly what he wants. What would be great is if the guy shows up to display his work of "art" and 4 gatos were there with no media and no fanfare. What would surely get the guy attention is if there were 300 or 400 Cubans yelling at him and protesting him.
Screw him. Out of sight, out of mind.
Well, apparently a lesson was learnt by this artist....
There ya go Henry!
Sounds like good PR to me and a hell of a con-job
A couple of calls to a few Harlem churches revealed that they had NO idea what I was talking about.
Reading about the process of showing ANYTHING in Central Park tells you that this is just not you typical SoHo gallery that it takes a TON of reviews to get anything approved In fact “Strawberry Fields” WAS a motherfucker to get done and NO effigy of Lennon is displayed there, because ANY effigy in Central Park is a MAJOR DEAL!
As we mentioned to our letters to Mayor Bloomberg, this was the work of a couple of ñangaras taking advantage of the naiveté of a few Harlem residents
Now this “sculptor” gets his moment of fame by becoming a HERO to Cubans. FUCK HIM! Someone else feeding on our pain. He can shove the statue up his fucking ass…. And THAT is what Miamians should tell him! We keep being fodder for conmen
Andy Warhol was right man
“It isn’t the ART it is the exposure”
That's the Warholian principal:
"everyone's entitled to 15 miuntes of fame".
Or the principle applied by all shock artists:
"it doesn't matter if you get good or bad reviews, what matters is that they are talking about you".
And yes, we are in a post-art world already, where all that these people crave is recognition, publicity, and their short 15 minutes of fame.
Now we can say that the whole deal is so very fucking 16 minutes ago that is not even funny.
