GÜAJIRO INVITED TO PERFORM AT CMJ
“Spanglish” Punk Rockers Güajiro have been invited to perform at the 2006 CMJ Festival. The event is to be held the week of October 31st – Nov. 4th at Lincoln Center, in New York City, New York.
The Güajiro showcase is set for Wednesday, November 1st, at the Pussycat Lounge. Complete lineup and times TBA.
The world-renowned CMJ Music Marathon is New York City’s largest music festival attracting more than 100,000 music professionals, artists and music enthusiasts to NYC every autumn.
Since its inception in 1981 CMJ has been a springboard for the best new music talent from multiple music genres, discovering music’s future superstars years before their commercial breakthroughs including marquee artists like R.E.M. (’83), Red Hot Chili Peppers (’84), U2 (’85), The Beastie Boys (’85), Queen Latifah (’90), Green Day (’94), Wilco (’96), Black Eyed Peas (’97), Eminem (’98), Modest Mouse (’98), The Killers (’03), The Arcade Fire (’04), and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (’05).
Güajiro’s debut EP was released to rave reviews in November 2005. It was the 13th most added record at CMJ the last week of November, and debuted in the CMJ top 200 charts a week later. The video for the track “Matanzero” was added to MTV Overdrive, MTV On-Demand, MTVS and MTV Puerto Rico where it was a “Buzzworthy” clip.
Güajiro’s first full length record, “Material Subversivo” is scheduled for a March 2007 release. Label TBA.
