Flambe

While Havana's oil refinery burns in the background, raul kasstro receives Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov who has passed on Russian President Vladimir Putin's wishes to kagasstro for his speedy recovery, maybe with the hope of getting some piece of the pie in a kasstroless Cuba.
"We hope fidel castro's health will improve and the people of Cuba will see their Comandante back at the helm soon," Fradkov said during talks between Russian and Cuban delegations in Havana. I personally think that the guy was being ironic when he said that given that the Comandante looks like dead and the whole place looks like it's really bad.
Well, they are all playing with fire.... and someone most likely will be burnt!
(someone most likely will be fired, pun intended)
The fire is still burning, and there's no news about any fatalities.
The government is mum about what could have caused it, and there's no word on what's going on either on the port or in neighboring communities. That Venezuelan petroleum burns like hell....

KaSStro not meeting with the Russian is VERY significant - The fact that Putin didn’t go to Kuba himself also is of EXTREME importance!

The significant parts are:
1) KaSStro is in such bad shape he just can not make a personal appearance. Apparently he may have met with some of the visitors to the Beggars Banquet but .. That could had been a double and the Russian would’ve known the difference.

2) Putin is sending a VERY strong message to KaSStro to put the reigns on Chavez or shit is gonna fly. Chavez forcing the democRATS to stick out for Bush was such an idiotic tactic that Putin may have decided to wag his finger!
Can NOT have a connect the dots path between Venezuela -> Kuba -> Russia. Last think Putin needs is THAT headache. Specially with the kind of candidates coming up to lead the UN and Czechoslovakia as a possible member of the security counsel!

Now it remains to be seen if KaSStro - in ANY health condition he may be - is in a position to control Chavez. If he can not dont be too surprise the Russians take him out.

The final assessment is that neither assumption looks good for the KaSStrist regime and as we have been saying, we can already discount KaSStro as an impediment to a free Cuba . We need to start looking down a few steps down the food chain t see what prick is actually controlling the government.

We've been talking a lot about the irrelevancy of the kasstros, condition which was recently achieved by the illness of one of them and the more pronounced alcoholic incapacity of the other. They have been reduced to the rank of ceremonial dummies. The one with real power in his hands is Darth Valdes. A free Cuba is closer to us than anything that one can imagine, but it's at the same time a very distant reality due to interests from both sides of the Straits that are maybe opposed but not necessarily conflicting in this case. Russians? Money? That's a Russian Mafia deal, my friends.

CB, seems like the dominos are going to start falling in Kagastro-land soon (in fact, some started falling already, with the resurrection of Valdes, Tech firings, etc..). The only question is...in favor of which direction will these dominos fall towards > Castrianism or Free Cuba?

You estimate..."A free Cuba is closer to us than anything that one can imagine".

Which particular 'dominos' do you think need to fall in this direction, in order to get a sign that we are getting closer to this destiny?

As I said, Solimar, it's very close to us if the dominoes fall in the right direction. We need to give some push to the dominoes and the push will define the way they will fall.
Apparently, there are a lot of interests which are conspiring against a free Cuba and to maintain Castrianism (thanks Asha for coining such an appropiate word) since politicos and business people will benefit from it. If we help the Cuban people to push the dominos the right way, then a free Cuba is right here. As we have said before, the opportunity was missed on July 31, a minimal force would have secured the future of Cuba.
To make the dominos fall in the direction pointing to a free Cuba, the first thing that need to be done is to respect the Cuban people and not treat them like if they were a bunch of children that have to be lead by the hand. We need to take into account that we are facing a reconstruction process that will require a lot of sacrifices from the part of the Cuban people and a lot of generosity from our part. If someone is thinking that Cuba is going to be a gold mine to be exploited in the near future, I can tell that person he or she should go elsewhere to make his her profit. There are a lot of capable people in Cuba who have to be given the right tools and the opportunity to do something by and for themselves. Those who pretend to impose a model and establish themselves into paternalistic figures will have no place in Cuba. They don't need any "salvador de la patria" they already had enough with kasstro. There will be a lot to teach them, a lot of work to do, side by side with them, in order to help them to retrieve their country from the hole and take it to a position of relevance in the world. I hope for the best!

Quite interesting - it has been said "coincidences are God's way of remaining anonymous." I remember the black, billowing smoke from the 1958 fire at the same refinery - seen from our high perch; it could be said it was a harbinger of the fall of Batista. Is this a harbinger of the final fall of the kagaSStro klan and all their barnacles? Pray it may be so - maybe the flames represent a peek at what is awaiting them all in hell. Wonder how quickly a GUAYABERA burns?
