¿Y CUBA que?
On my first trip to Kuba in 1998 I was told by an old buddy who had become a full fledged Santero that KaSStro had pretty much made a pact with Satan ( yeah sure , said I) but that the cost would be a painful and agonizing death AND stomach cancer was mentioned, which from what I understand is the most horrific of pain.
Now, we are hearing rumors that THE BEAST will make a showing at his birthday “bash” , if he DOES he is just aggravating the inevitable so YES by ALL means SHOW UP ya PRICK !
And have a couple of stitches pop loose.
From a medical point of view, those who know figure that KaSStro must look like the Crypt Keeper, probably lost over 40 lb, his terribly fake looking false teeth clattering like castanents, barely able to breath or sit down because his inners have been butchered to a point where even Che would be envious of such mayhem.
So this is what this piece of shit is in for; If he shows the Cuban people will be taken aback by the horrific sight of a semi Zombie paying a dear price for 47 years of power, if he does not the rumors will take gargantuan proportions.
If a recording is played, EVERYONE will wonder if it is really HIM! NO WIN MOTHERFUCKER!
Now, for what we KNOW is happening in KUBA …
CDRs are on a 24 alert. Their regular jobs put aside. They are reporting on anyone with
A cell phone
A PC
An antenna (when they take your antenna down, they also take your TV set)
A Fax machine
Digital cameras
About ¼ of all phones in la Habana have been disconnected
Sale of gasoline is limited to foreigners, in fact other articles that are being confiscated are , gasoline (to the point that it is being siphoned out of cars) methane gas and any other flammable substance .
Even paper and writing instruments are being confiscated!
Since these are the only “weapons” Cubans have it is logical they’d go after this.
The reserves that were called in have been divested of any weapons. They were originally issue some kind of arms but I guess someone realized that the reserve is NOT the military and most of them are only kids who went through the draft and hold no allegiance to the “party” so within a day all the arms were back in Raul’s possession.
The reserves have been relegated to break up any groups of 3 or more people gathered anywhere in public or in private since another task of the CDR are explicit orders to watch for this kind of congregation and report to the G2.
The power struggle is a full swing.
As we reported the day after KaSStros intestinal blow up was made public, there are clearly 3 defined factions within the cesspool.
The old guard (following Raul):
These are old farts in their 60s plus who still believe KaSStro is GOD! Thankfully they are too old and too few to make a fucking difference.
The middle guard.
These are assholes that grew up under KaSStro and have had a pretty cushy life making the lives of others a living hell. They want an even cushier life, by adopting some kind of China/ Vietnam mode of government. They STILL hate the USA and make it known at any chance they have. The hatred is clearly due to the fear that all the perks the ROBOlution has given them will vanish in a democratic society. These guys are dangerous because the USA MAY accept them as they have the governments of China and Vietnam, turning the other way while they keep a semi capitalistic economy under a tremendous and inhuman yoke. But hey , they will control a possible headache for the USA so , they MAY come out on top.
Now the YOUNG people.
These want the USA to come in , they want a Nimitz class carrier in HABANA bay TOMORROW!
They want the American flag floating next to the Cuban flag, actually a LOT of them want Cuba as a protectorate of the USA , thusly avoiding any more shenanigans from the likes of Chavez or the likes of the two groups mentioned above.
What will actually happen? My BET is that the second group will take over and that there will be a grudgingly acceptance between the USA and the “new” Kuban leadership.
Since the ONLY pre-requisite the USA has imposed to recognize a new Cuban government is that NO KASSTRO occupies any part of the government , that proviso would be fulfilled and LET US ALL PARTY!
Kuba will remain a prison but the cells may be a little bigger.

without a castro in power, the idea of lowering the embargo as a way to bring about social and political change to the island may actually work. But as long as there aren't basic reforms such as private property and the allowing of individual businesses that strategy won't work.
It's going to go the Asian way. And Cuba will be as free as China or Viet Nam. The kasstro's will be retired, peacefully. And the people of Cuba will be screwed royally, without being considered refugees any longer (not that they are considered refugees now, but sometimes somebody remembers the bloody tyranny and they give a pass to a poor balsero) the omen is dark. Very dark.

It would work on a very superficial level. The appearance of normalcy would be there. You will see a HABANA Hilton AGAIN and you will drink Budweiser in a corner bar, but THAT is not very different from what KaSStro had 4 years ago. There were NO Hiltons but there were PLENTY of MELIAS there was no Budweiser but Heinekens where all over the place and the people were STILL slaves.
A friend’s son is doing a movie in Beijing (they are using Beijing as a background of an American city - now FIGURE THAT OUT!) and the guy is flabbergasted as to the riches he sees.
"Like TOKYO" he says, unfortunately they are being watched by the Chinese police as if they were criminals. No coming or going, sectors are OFF limits, crowds gathering to see the filming are dispersed with clubs. The whole crew is totally confused but, hey they are saving a TON of cash filming there, do you think they care about the treatment of the citizens ? It "bothers" them but they will be back.. CASH REIGNS SUPREME!
And if we have a pseudo capitalist government in Cuba like they do in China (where MOST of the free enterprise is actually government controlled, they just not wear MAO suits to meetings) but where liberties and free speech and Internet access is still FULLY under the rigid control of the communist government, how far have we gone?
This possible change of USA policy allowing Cubans to emigrate to the USA more easily is a lil disconcerting as far as foreign policy is concerned because it is kind of a taciturn nod to the NEW ORDER. The reality is that any EXIT of the country is 98% controlled by the government. Yes it is a gesture of good will on the part of the USA and hopefully it will put some pressure on the Cuban government , still it will be a cash cow to KaSStro ( or whoever is in power)
Why not the other way around, why not allow US the Cubans in the USA to go there more easily? Put a little more steam into THAT pressure cooker!
Spend your money in the black-market (like I always did) , eat in private paladares , stay in private house, buy stolen gasoline , rent cars that were supposed to be under “repair” AND , TALK, TALK, TALK . Put Cubans minds at ease. Ignite and spread the flame of discontent
We all know that the USA is NOT going to blitzkrieg into La Habana and perhaps the gambit is to allow and accept ANY change as little as it seems in order to infiltrate some democracy and capitalism into the island not to mention some much needed staples. It can also open a conduit to American enterprises to begin laying down a footprint in Cuba, but FREEDOM my friend FREEDOM is nowhere in THAT picture.
JJeez.
first of all , let me thank you for your blog. it's a great place with very interesting ideas and info/gossip from the island.
ive read your post and comments a few times.
unfortunately i do share your view that a nefarious behind the scenes struggle is occuring and i also share the dread that we can only wait and that the cubans on the island will continue their servitude while we talk. it sucks.
around wednesday i started to get a sinking feeling that the day i waited for all of my life didn't turn out quite the way i imagined it.
it doesn't really make me happy that the beast (blog etiquette)is gone yet the people are still enslaved. empty and hollow.
i don't however agree that a chinese style militarist regime can be successful in cuba. I don't think is in the EEUU's best interest either.
your point about the demographics is so valid. these 40 and unders will rule their destiny at some point.
the blitzkrieg of a free market 90 miles away.
whatever happens though its really refreshing to see that there so many interested in improving the lives of our brothers. thats the real struggle.
Eerily, our sources have been telling us "blow by blow" what was going on, way before the MSM "reported" on "something". The worst part, is that the MSM refried what has been said in the blogs.
The position of Cuba as a protectorate of the States is the only one that would eventually guarantee law, order, and democracy in the country.
Curiosly, the oposition to this way of thinking is the only coincidence between certain sectors both in Cuba and in exile, for totally different reasons.
To me, the will of the younger generation in Cuba is of crucial importance, because their are the muscle and the brain to be employed in the reconstruction of Cuba. And last time I checked, the majority of the population of Cuba is under 40 years of age. So, any other solution would be an impossition of an idea over the majority of the population. Not very democratic.... don't you think?
All the tid bits that we are receiveing point even to the "retirement" of the kasstros, so, they are not technically in possession of the power, but the systems gains an "Asian" flavor and they are free, justice is not served to them, and the Cuban people gets totally screwed, once again.
Honestly, I would prefet that Cuba became part of the States or a protectorate in order to see my fellow countrymen free and living productive lives, under an organized and democratic society, if that means that it would render impossible the establishment of a new tyranny in the island. What would be really bad is to have a small nation that was destroyed by a tyranny spiral down into a frantic nationalism and have it kidnapped again by another prick like kasstro.
We are fortunate enough to have freedom in our American homeland and we need to transmit the experience to our fellow countrymen.
