Irrelevant old men, just in the figurative sense.

He suffered a mini-stroke, one more.
He's frail, but he still rules on his castle. And I feel bad for him. No, I am not talking about kasstro, I was talking about Hugh Hefner, who at this moment is more entertaining and relevant than kasstro. Or than the two kasstro's together.
The kasstros irrelevant? Thanks for asking the legitimate question.... yes, according to the last rumors in Havana, they are irrelevant just in the figurative sense, I mean.
Apparenlty, they both plan to "retire" from politics and install a junta that will carry on their policies, while they will be just "social features" of "political value" in the country. Let me get into details, as I got a very long letter today explaining all of that.
They have discovered the Vietnamese and the Chinese models. People think in Cuba that something is boiling under the surface so the non-existing embargo can be lifted, American investments move at the speed of lightning down to Cuba, factories get relocated there and the jetset will start vacationing and dancing on tables in every hotel in the island and oilers will be drilling happily off shore.
Meaning, everything is kosher because officially kasstro and his brother are not in power. Some other dummies are. Then, well.... all the relationships with Cuba get negotiated, nothing changes, and like in China and Viet Nam, the state becomes the only national capitalist, the locals can make a bit of money, but no human rights, free press, freedom of expression or immigration will be ever allowed. That also would do away with the Cuban Adjustment Act, and the dry-foot wet-foot. Cubans will not be refugees anymore, because alas, the kasstros hold no power. Then Cubans will become illegal immigrants, and the country will look ok, if one looks at the shiny glass towers, and new cars, but communism and all its negativity will continue to rule.
Don't shoot me, this is what people in professional circles in Havana fear the most.
That's why the younger generation in Cuba wants the States to come and take over the island, differently from what the old crusty commies want, which is the chance of ruling the country by other means, in cahoots with business interests and Russian mobsters. Curiously, many exiles want also a Cuba without "interference" of the States. Cuba needs the guarantee that communism is never going to return or is not going to survive under a disguise. Now tell me how to achieve that without rooting out the kasstros definitively.
I understand the frustration of the Cubans, they feel they have been sold and bought.

From the lead story:

"Diplomats and analysts say it's important to remember that Cuba has been an independent nation only for slightly more than a century and that Fidel Castro has reigned unchallenged almost half that time.

They point out that Cuba under Castro is not North Korea, a hermetically sealed country where millions starve. It also has not experienced civil war like El Salvador or Guatemala."

No inconvienent history allowed,we have been betrayed and sold. Unless W has a secret plan, and I sure as hell don't see any signs of that. God damn them what cruel fools they are.
