Secrecy, conspiracy, and despicable manipulations
For example, the meeting was shold on February 18, and it's only today, February 20 that some information filters down to the public realm. And to be honest, the information is far from being complete.
The secrecy of it doesn't tell a good story about it, and as Alfredo from el Cafe Cubano accurately pointed out, it's the same line of banter that we keep on hearing "The world has to open to Cuba" and in the same sentence or context there os not a single condemnation to the tyrant, the tyranny, and much less to it's diabolic nature.
Maybe we should remind the Church that the sole fact that kasstro was an alumnus from Belen, the Jesuit school in Havana doesn't make him into a saint, on the contrary he is well prepared to debate and misconstrue the Church and it's doctrine, with the subsequent trickery that is proper of him.
Maybe we should remind the Vatican that this is the same monster who persecuted Christians, who stole their business, and who kicked priests and nuns out of COuba. Maybe the Vatican doesn't know that the valiant Cubans who were executed at el paredon (shooting squads) were denied their last rites and confession and that they died screaming Viva Cristo Rey.
The Vatican doesn't seem to know that being a religious person in Cuba automatically stigmatizes you. They don't seem to know that every religion in Cuba is under gubernamental control, that the secret police G2 has every church and synagogue under surveillance, they also seem to ignore that the Church is held in a choking head press and that The Ladies in White has been attacked systematically on their way to church. They apparently have forgotten that the Virgin of La Caridad, the patroness of Cuba, has three Cubans in a boat asking for mercy and her divine intervention before God our Father. Those could very well be our modern day brothers, the balseros, who leave Cuba fleeing the tyranny that asphixiates them. Why then this shroud of secrecy?
I had to investigate a tad on Cardinal Martino. He was the same one that said that the Americans treated the captive Satan Hussein as if he were a cow. Maybe yes, Cardinal, but in all cases as a Satanic cow who wandered out of hell. So, what's the Vatican thinking? they send a Cardinal who has anti-American pronunciations to Cuba to speak to the AntiChristian bastard.... in exchage for what? What about the Cubans to whom God has been denied by the hand and intention of the dictatorship? There's a lot of explaining to do, Cardinal Martino, in my not so humble opinion. Ask God for forgiveness, I hope (I really doubt that...) you can live with yourself and sleep at night.
Vatican official talks with Castro
Havana, Feb. 20 (CWNews.com) - Cardinal Renato Martino (bio - news), the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, met on February 18 with Cuba's Fidel Castro.
A Vatican announcement said that the cardinal's exchange with the Cuban dictator was "cordial," adding that they spoke about the possibility of a visit to Cuba by Pope Benedict XVI.Their meeting lasted more than two hours, and included discussion of the role of religion in society, religious freedom, and the social contributions of the Church in Cuba.
Cardinal Martino, who was in Cuba to present the new Spanish Compendium of Catholic social teaching, had indicated before leaving Rome that he hoped for a personal meeting with Castro, and had not yet received word whether or not he would be able to speak directly with the Cuban leader. The cardinal said he was pleased with the results of their conversation.
Castro has now twice asked visiting cardinals to relay an invitation for Pope Benedict XVI to visit Cuba; he had earlier made the same request to Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone of Genoa, Italy, in December.

The hiearchy of the church is just as corrupt as our politicians! not much of a difference between the two. Eventually they will all have to face our maker on judgement day, and if I was any of them I would be very very nervous right now!
What an oxymoron that is...Castro inviting the clergy to visit his Gulag?
Por Favor!
I can not understand this? The church seemed intent tto bring down communism in Poland and in Russia. Pope John Paul while in Nicaragua wagged his finger and reprimanded a priest who was very communist and supportive of Ortega. When it comes to Cuba, nothing. No mention of political prisoners, no mention of lack of religion, no mention of freedom.
