Solidarity

The latest developments in the hunger strike:
There is a lot of talk but no walk from the part of the government representatives. Well, there's no direct talk, either. The Democracia Movement is proposing to extend the protest as a civil stoppage in the City of Miami in order for all the Cubans to have their voices heard, and for the mainstream media to be forced to pay attention and to publicize this protest.
There are some new developments and they are reported by Channel 10 Local News.
As we can see, there's no clear communication or clear definition on what the next step is going to be, but there's a possibility that the hunger strike could end, and if so, the dry foot wet foot would be discussed at high goverment level.
There is no promise to end the dry foot wet foot, just a promise to discuss it. I believe that there's no need to further discuss this particular theme, the only needed thing is its immediate abolition.
My question here is simple: why isn't the President writing a memo ordering this regulation nullified right now?
That's the only thing we need, we do not need any Congressional discussions and talks about a matter of life and death.
Whatever is done that doesn't eliminate this remainder of the Clinton era will just amount to open betrayal to the Cuban people, and to the portion of the Cuban people who votes in the United States and that has been instrumental in the last two elections.

"Supporters of Sanchez asked Gov. Bush if he would go to visit Sanchez in Little Havana while he was in South Florida on Tuesday, but the governor said his job was to set up the meeting, and he did not intend to visit Sanchez." Tell me if this sounds good. Not to me!

Is there a web site that is keeping this up to date with pictures, maybe a counter of elapsed time of hunger strike, sound bites, list of signatures etc? The pictures they have there now look like a Calle ocho Party going on. I they need mean SOMETHING that will reach GLOBALLY! After 47 years we just can NOT be this naive as far as publicity goes!

Could it be that immigration is one of the planks of the GOP platform for the upcoming election? Have you been listening to Republican radio WIOD anytime in the last six months. Just last night on the Sean Hannity Show, the illegal immigration was the topic, Sean was talking about standing at the border and watching the wetbacks invasion. It's and INVASION and it needs to stop.
I can just see the president undermining their whole platform, or being accused of a double standard.. yea right, don't hold you breath, your the enemy.

So, we are accepting to be bunched together with the Mexicans. What's the president of the Republican party in Miami doing about that? Is he/she Cuban? I would bet he/she is.
We are accepting been called migrants, in violation of the law that defines us as refugees.
And the Republican Party is able to afford to forget and not be grateful to the Cuban exiles who voted for Bush two times. That's nice, isn't it?
This is the most successful community in history in the U.S.A. people who come here with nothing, make a living, create jobs, uphold the economy, and the payment is a resounding go to hell from the party they help elect?
Maybe all of us have to start using the return envelopes of the Republican party contributions to send them letters letting them know how we feel for abandoning us, and for returning the balseros to Cuba.
We well see how Cubans won't vote. I don't think that we are going to give the votes to the 'Rats, but certainly the Republicans are not earning the privilege of counting with our votes.

As Cubans, we see what is happening to US and we wonder WHY?
Now, let's put ourselves in Bush's shoes. The same goes with Gov. Bush.
They have a LOT more votes to massage e than US Cubans. Jesus, we have known this BEFORE we gave the flag to Kennedy. AND WE DID … AND WE WERE STUPID FOR DOING THAT
One guy on a hunger strike can not change the agendas of a president or a governor NOW!.. if there is a case of an extended protest that will affect the Americans in Miami ( Yeap there are a few of those) it is gonna get media , but neither of the BUSH brother is gonna stop by.
As I have said before, whether is a DemocRAT or a Republican in the white house they are VERY careful on stepping on each toes. Remember the pendulum theory !. The USA will always be between the 5 & the 7 , Bush shoots a memo and abolishes this and next time a democrat is in the white house he shoots a memo abolishing some Republican law. TIT for TAT . WE are just NOT THAT important to any USA president.
The whole thing is insane and it WILL come to a head if Sanchez DOES stay in the hunger strike and at the point that the Pope himself has to intercede. At THAT point MAYBE President Bush may even acknowledge what is going on but that is about it!. Unless there is a consensus amongst DemocRATS and Republicans as to knocking down a law set by another president this is just not going to happen as it may look like a whimsical (and Cuban biased) political move on the part of Bush and THEN you will see the media whores of the MSM all over Bush for abolishing the law. Getting over THAT hurdle will take weeks from the president schedule

And you expect the great unwashed listening public of the SHS and the red state'res to understand the difference between Illegal immigrants and refugees? oh my didn't you know, we all look the same.

Anyway I just read the update, and I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not expecting much except maybe for a promise to look at it at the earliest possible time, you know sometime after the election. The Cuban lobby was powerful once... a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
