Embargo my ASS – FILMS being shot in Kuba
Babalu Blog (pretty much the spark for the KILLCASTRO Blog) has been debating with some KaSStro enablers regarding a new “movie” recently filmed in La Habana.
The other side has a million reasons why they filmed in La Habana but based on the lousy story line of that junk a lot of us suspected there are other reasons why a Cuban director living in the USA would choose to shoot in La Habana.
So I went on my fact finding mission.
It appears to be a THRIVING film industry in Kuba. The obvious reason, economics. A film shot in Kuba will cost a fraction of what it would cost any place else since there’s NO middle man everything is going into KaSStro’s coffers.
My sources tell me that any given time there is 2 to 3 movies being shot there. Anytime a movie needs a Latin American scenery out of the 40s or 50s La Habana is the place to go.
In fact La Habana has appeared in some Spanish movies as Turkey & Morocco !
Spain is the biggest client, even filming historic films in fortresses around La Habana, VERY seldom it is mentioned that the scenes are shot in Kuba. So I went after a title that would confirm this, my source said. Check out
“Ilona Arrives with the Rain” he worked in that movie and told me that they didn’t do a very good job of hiding the film was being shot in Kuba.
So I rented the flic and low and behold. The story line places the film in Panama as its core location, but the WHOLE fucking thing was shot in La Habana!
The perfectly restored 1950s cars are owned by the government and are part of the “ambiance”
ANYONE who is from La Habana can tell where each location is. There are shots of La Cabaña, La Habana Vieja (actually showing pretty dilapidated buildings). And an old mansion which I KNOW happens to be in Marianao.
In the story line old mansion is converted into a brothel, and here we have a CLEAR indication this is La Habana since the “owner” of the mansion is Mirta Ibarra the Cuban actress from Strawberry & Chocolate and Guantanamera.
Besides her all the actors have undistinguishable accents except for the Spaniards (you know the “Z” thing)
At the very end of the movie, someone shouts something while putting out a fire, and yeap .. That was a Cuban all right.
So Spaniards , Germans, Colombians and Mexicans are shooting films in Kuba and keeping it VERY quiet.
The most interesting part of this is the pre-requisites to film in Kuba.
The script must be approved by the Ministry of Culture
All the fees for Cuban workers are paid directly to KaSStro in dollars and El Sumo Hijo de Puta will pay the crew in Cuban pesos
At all times there will be an “escort” or “escorts” while the film shoots, they quaint reason, to keep the crowds away.
Exteriors are not to be chosen by the cinematographer but are dictated by the Ministry of Culture. The cinematographer may say “I need a park” and THE Park is assigned to them. In other words EVERYTHING is under the control of the KaSStro government. Footage is strictly controlled by the M of C and any script changes must be approved by them.
Again the up side of this “creative headlock” is the MONEY!
A Cuban gaffer makes the equivalent of $10.00 USD a day and he gets paid, if lucky $1.50 USD .
There are no pollutions laws , special permits nor insurance required . If a movie maker requests to close El Malecon for a day and the money is there , KaSStro WILL close the Malecon for a day.
So as we all know Cubans are free as a slave was free, slave labor, slave pay, dismal medical attention (but Free, can’t let them slaves get sick , now can we?)
I propose to boycott all of these “Directors” that for the sake of a few thousand dollars perpetuate the continuation of a slave Cuba. And I am not speaking metaphorically.

Not to talk of the cozy relationship with Hollywood's movers and shakers, as Fontova relates in his book: fidel, Hollywood favorit tyrant. For that matter, I would love to know how Spielberg can condemn Hitler while he likes kagasstro. Or invite Jack Nicholson here to detail all his lewd activities that are caught on tape in Havana which can make him land in jail here. There's a long list... I would love to see Danny Glover being roughed up in Havana for existing while black, like it happened to Spike Lee. And yes, I boycott most of the garbage produced in Hollywood, and in a fortunate coincidence it's all the "oeuvre" of the kagASStro lickers.
